October 20, 2015

We have another frost this morning but we should reach the upper 60's today with clear skies.  The water flows are good and the streams are clear.

I had an opportunity to fish in the GSMNP yesterday and it was a good day.  It did start off a bit slow but it ended well.  The water temp in the morning was 42 degrees.  I did observe Caddis hatching around noon yesterday and that lasted into the afternoon hours.  October and Tan Caddis were the main ones but a few Mayflies made a small presence.  I really had a blast taking trout on a #18 Gallup's Gobber Midge, which was my most affective fly.

Another guide was on the Nantahala and had a good day also.  They took most of the fish on a #12 Deep Six Caddis nymph.  The guide said the fishing was good and the conditions were good.

I have not gotten a report from the Tuckasegee yet but I would guess that current trends will continue.  Expect several anglers and drift boats on the water.  Check stream flow rates and make sure you can wade safely before entering the Tuck.

Tight Line!
