October 14, 2015

Fall is in the air.  I had a reading of 42 degrees at the house this morning but temperatures will vary a few degrees depending on location.  The weatherman is calling for lows in the 30's by this weekend and highs in the 60's so hit the water for some great fall fishing action.

The Delayed Harvest Waters of the Tuckasegee River in Jackson County and Swain County are fishing well.  Most of the fishing pressure in Jackson County is happening in the Webster area along South River Road.  Expect to see both drift boats and wading fishermen alike.  If you are heading to the new DH section in Swain County I suggest fishing in the Bryson City area of the Tuckasegee River.  Reliable reports are saying that the most productive areas are in the town area.

The GSMNP is a great place to fish.  October Caddis are hatching and if you like casting dry flies this is an excellent time to be in one of the many streams on the GSMNP.  I suggest starting off early with an orange dry fly of your choice and later in the day switching to a dropper rig.  Let the fish be your guide.  Water levels are awesome and very clear but remember that you will have to contend with falling leaves but as a bonus wildlife are active and the scenery is beautiful.

The WNC Fly Fishing Trail has 15 excellent spots to hit.  The trail includes everything from small streams, delayed harvest waters, and trophy waters to fish.  Some local favorites include but are not limited to Scotts Creek and the Caney Fork and various other streams in that area.  No matter what type of water you like to fish we have it hear in Jackson County and in the surrounding area.  Click on the map located on our site for a larger version of the map.

Tight Lines!
