January 24, 2017

We received a fair amount of rain Sunday evening and into Monday Morning that has raised the stream levels.  Duke Energy has been releasing water from the East and West Forks and it has been some time since we have seen that.  It is forecast to feel more like January towards the end of the week and the weekend highs are looking like the upper 30's to lower 40's.

I have to say that the fishing has been good especially on emerger and tiny dry flies but with the heavier stream flows you will need to change your tactics.  Streamers and heavier nymphs should be the best options until the water recedes.  Black stones have worked well for me but the word is that some prince nymphs and pheasant tail nymphs are producing good trout also.  Copper Johns are always a good choice so have a few of those.

I will keep you updated as the conditions change.  Feel free to call or stop by the shop if you have any questions.

Tight Lines!
